Argyle Street, 1962

My first post of 2009, so can I wish those that visit a very Happy New Year.

Unfortunately, tomorrow sees the closure of the remaining 200 Woolworth UK Stores and the 2 of Glasgow's 3 shops, with one of them closing last week. Woolworth has been part of our family for a long time, my Dad, Mum and three sisters all worked with them over the years. Woolworth was the place my parents first met (the store room apparently) and why they moved their young family to Stornoway in 1971 and then themselves to Galashiels in 1994.

I got a copy of this picture yesterday and thought it would be appropriate to post it today. It is a shot of the staff of the Argyle Street store (No.118) in 1962 during happier times. My Mum is second from the right.
